Experience the Ultimate Adventure: Project Route 318
Join us for an unforgettable 11-day journey along China’s most breathtaking highway—Route 318! Your adventure begins on day one in the vibrant city of Hong Kong, where you’ll meet our expert tour leaders before boarding a high-speed train to Shenzhen, China’s tech capital. Upon arrival, we’ll check into a comfortable hotel, giving you time to relax and recover from jet lag or, if you are feeling up to it, hit the town with us for some sightseeing and food.
On day two we’ll guide you through the process of obtaining your Chinese Provisional Driving Permit. Once you’re all set, enjoy a tour of Shenzhen, often called the "Silicon Valley of China," before settling in for one last night in this bustling metropolis.
On day three we fly to Chengdu, Sichuan province—famous for its rich culture and incredible cuisine! After checking into our hotel, the evening is yours to explore while our team prepares the electric vehicles for the journey ahead. One of our tour leaders will be on hand if you need guidance of where to go and what to see.
On the morning of day four, we begin our electric road trip from Chengdu to Kangding, a perfect introduction to driving in China. Take in the sights, get comfortable behind the wheel, and enjoy an evening of exploration in Kangding.
The true adventure begins on days five and six as we enter the legendary China National Highway 318. We drive through the breathtaking Kham region of Eastern Tibet, stopping at Tibetan stupas and taking in the awe-inspiring landscapes. Our journey takes us to Yajiang and then to Litang—home to the largest monastery in the Kham region and the birthplace of several Dalai Lamas. Immerse yourself in Tibetan culture and history at this high-altitude spiritual haven.
As we drive further on days seven and eight, we reach the majestic Himalayas, passing Daocheng, home to the world’s highest passenger airport at a staggering 4,411 meters (14,472 feet) above sea level! The adventure continues into Yunnan province as we arrive in Shangri-La, a lively Tibetan town with rich heritage and stunning scenery. Explore monasteries, wander through vibrant streets, and experience the enchanting energy of this remarkable city.
On day nine we still remain in Shangri-La and discover the breathtaking Ganden Sumtsenling Monastery, often called the "Little Potala Palace," the largest Tibetan monastery outside of Tibet. The rest of the day is yours to explore Shangri-La further or just relax at one of the many cafes in town.
Our journey comes full circle on days ten and eleven as we drive back to Chengdu, enjoying a scenic overnight stop in Lingshan. Upon our arrival in Chengdu, we celebrate with a special farewell dinner, sharing stories of our incredible experiences before parting ways the following morning.
PLEASE NOTE: We recommend that you arrive at least one day earlier in Hong Kong. Accommodation in Hong Kong is not included in the tour price.
